¶We added markdown support to posts tonight.
¶Articles and posts are different types of content on Daystream. Articles have titles; posts don’t. Articles are composed with a rich text editor, while posts have always been plain text entries.
¶I’ve always liked this distinction, and felt it was useful because it seemed to help me write more (omitting the need for a title was surprisingly freeing). But, I’ve always felt like something was missing with posts.
¶Emphasis and links are important aspects of web writing, whether the piece has a title or not. Markdown allows us to use these elements in posts without abandoning their plain text simplicity.
¶So take a review of the markdown style guide and start marking down your posts!

¶I added audio capabilities to Daystream today. You can now upload mp3’s to your journals. This is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile, and I have some bigger plans for the feature in the future. Should be fun.
¶So where’s the first recording? I used our Post to the Past feature to add a recording of water draining into a sewer to my journal for last Saturday.

¶Oh, and applications of the mRNA technology in the Kariko paper were patented in 2012. The patents describe the process for practicing the technology in painstaking detail, as the law requires. And they expire in five years - in 2026, opening up incredible opportunities for new applications of the technology.

¶This is the paper that lead directly to the mRNA technology underlying both the Pfizer and the Moderna vaccines. Talk of a Nobel Prize has started.
¶“This work was supported by National Institutes of Health grants....”
¶This paper is, quite possibly, the best argument of all time for supporting federal spending on basic scientific research. The entire world is aware of the benefit the research produced.
¶Whatever we’re spending on basic research isn’t enough. Figure out how to pay for it…and triple it.

¶The Red Wings are miserable. Post game analysis focused on stories from Larry Murphy and Mickey Redmond about the apparently legendary hot dogs available at the Colisée de Québec, home of the old Quebec Nordiques. They were apparently square in cross-section, not circular. I watched every minute of the game and post game. Great tv, horrible hockey.

¶Our feral cat returned tonight. We trapped him in the garage last week to give him shelter from the extreme cold and snow. He wasn’t happy about it - stayed away for a few days. But, he was back early this morning and again tonight. I guess he’s done being mad at us for giving him shelter, a warm bed (in the wooden house in the pic), and food and water.

¶Biden has really worked the supply side of the vaccine equation. It appears that a real vaccine glut is coming in the not too distant future, which means it’s the perfect time to start working the demand side of this equation. We need consistent messaging that gets the word out - the vaccines are safe, and they’re effective both on the personal and population levels.

¶I love keybase, but it feels dead since Zoom acquired it. It’s no surprise I guess - looking back on that press release, the acquisition was all about acquiring talent, and had nothing to do with the product (does it even mention their product or service?). Hopefully Zoom at least maintains it. Somehow I doubt that will happen, though.

¶We get excited about new restaurants in Toledo. Culver’s just opened their first location in the area and, with essentially no hype machine as far as I’ve noticed, people are going a little crazy for it. We bailed on our first attempt a few days ago, after waiting in line for over 30 minutes with little progress. We tried again today and committed to sticking it out. After forty minutes, we just turned into the lot.
