¶The CDC is paralyzed by fear. It’s the FDA after Thalidomide, overly cautious, afraid of being blamed for doing something even if the science supports it. It’s exactly what we don’t need right now.
Papering the record for appeal.

¶I’m still wrestling with our home network tonight. It’s amazing how complicated it’s become. I would guess we have more connected devices than the average family, but I don’t think it’s excessive. Even so, with phones, laptops, streaming boxes, IoT devices, NAS’s, printers, scanners, and the Tesla, we’ve got 30+ devices on the network. I feel like you need to be a part time network engineer to keep things going sometimes.

¶The money quote, literally, on subscription v. ad models for social platforms:
¶“You’re banking on making more revenue from a small subset of passionate customers willing to pay for the product than you could from showing ads to the whole customer base....It’s risky to rely on keeping consumers paying over long periods of time, but beautiful if it works.”
¶Read that carefully. It’s risky only because you might not achieve theoretical maximum revenue through a subscription model. The ad model could bring in more revenue than subscriptions…that’s the risk you’re taking as a business owner when you choose a subscription model over an ad model.
¶As most business owners know, some risks are worth taking.

¶Well, I’ve never seen this in a hockey game before - the scoreboard at Little Ceaser’s Arena is malfunctioning during tonight’s Red Wings game against the Lightning. The buzzer is going off constantly, seemingly ever minute, on the minute. The refs stopped play when it happened the first time, but told the players to just ignore it after that. So, the buzzer’s buzzing but the game continues. It’s weird and funny at the same time. And, of course, this is all happening with only 750 fans in the stands because…pandemic

¶Governor Dewine expanded vaccine eligibility in Ohio based on age to those 50 and older. I think the glut has arrived.
¶It’s time to shift our focus to the demand side of the equation. Expand access, increase number (and types) of sites, and communicate a clear, consistent message on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, and the importance of vaccination.

¶Our decreased activity during the pandemic has reduced itself to a repetition of the same things, day after day and week after week. It’s the Groundhog Day effect. I realized today, during our weekly trip to Costco (which we do at the same time and day each week), that we see a lot of the same strangers each week. Our patterns are aligning…and it’s weird.

¶We just finished watching the first two seasons of Succession on HBO. It’s tremendous. The storylines are well written and intertwine tightly, and there’s really no weak spot in the acting - you’re sort of left loving and hating every main character. I’ve got to let it sit in my mind a bit but it might be my new favorite show that we’ve streamed. Really well done.

¶It’s 24 hours since I got the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I had a slight headache last night and a little bit or soreness in my shoulder where I received the jab. That’s it. Renee had the same, plus some slight chills overnight. We’re solidly riding the blue line of Fig. 2 now.

¶Toledo and the NW Ohio region put together The VProject to encourage vaccination. I’ve seen some of the groups efforts and it feels like they’ve made a difference. People around here seem to be not only willing to get the vaccine, but excited to do it. They gave us this pin when leaving the vaccination clinic this morning.

¶History is happening in these vaccination clinics. I thought about what it would be like to look back on this in the future, either as myself or as someone learning about the COVID-19 pandemic, and realized photos might be a little flat as far as primary resources go. Some environmental audio might help to add some texture to the scene, so to speak.
¶So, I recorded this audio during my trip through the clinic today as I got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. It captures almost the entire process - I cut the check-in procedure and a personal conversation I had with a friend during the waiting period after receiving the shot as both had some identifying information of other people. Otherwise, this is the raw audio (muffled as it is) of my trip through the clinic.
¶Listening to it while looking at the wide view of the clinic, above, is really interesting to me. I think, together, they do a decent job of conveying the scene of these clinics. They’re organized and efficient. People are helpful. It’s a process. An assembly line. Getting the shot takes no time at all (you don’t even realize the exact time I received the shot in the audio, other than the nurse telling me “you’re all set.”). Organizers wonder about how they’re doing (“How was everything?”). All of this against a backdrop of casual conversation in several groups of people as they wait in line beforehand and in the holding area afterward.
¶And, as I exit the clinic, someone entering the clinic tells her friends she was nervous about getting the vaccine, but that “Dave said it beats COVID, so....”
¶Yep, it captures the scene…and the moment we’re in, quite well, I think.
