Some Was True is a long-running personal project. It’s my corner of the web for publishing observations and commentary on various topics I find interesting. I use the process of creating and publishing content to learn about everything from history and tech to sports and culture. I try to avoid politics but am not always successful in those efforts.
I started blogging on January 21, 2004 (on the very exciting topic of patent law!). I’ve loved the web and web publishing ever since. This site traces its roots to 2011. The nature and format of its content, and the domain, have evolved over time but the purpose and passion haven’t.
If you don’t recognize it, the name and tagline of the site both come from London Calling by The Clash. I’m amazed, and it’s fair to say, concerned that, nearly 50 years after it’s publication, the lyrics of that song are more meaningful than ever.

And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true
That last bit was an inside joke with some science friends in college and has taken on an entirely new meaning for me in the age of generative artificial intelligence. I’ll explain it all someday.
Content on the site is organized in date-based journals. This is a throwback to the origin of the site, an old web publishing project of mine called Daystream. That project never achieved a sustainable user base, so I eventually shuttered it but wanted a home for my own content and a place to keep observing and documenting. So I moved things around a bit, eventually landing the content here and maintaining some of the Daystream format.
