¶I think I’m going to use Teddy to practice my focusing skills–tracking those eyes behind that hair is tough! Even the excellent Sony eye-tracking struggles to track them. Sometimes I wonder how he’s not bumping into things as he’s walking around.

¶Watching Prince Phillip’s funeral this morning with Renee. I couldn’t understand why they’re were playing America, my country ‘tis of thee. Makes no sense.
¶Well, I learned today that that song was written in 1831 and uses the same melody as the national anthem of the United Kingdom, God Save the Queen. Apparently it was written as a bit of a, um, nod to our British roots.

¶Is Turkey an outlier on crypto, or a trendsetter? Only time will tell. For now, the open question is one of the biggest risks in crypto.

¶Our feral cat came for dinner tonight, too. I love it when Lucy watches him eat from the laundry room. I think he’d tear her apart if they ever encountered each other, but she sure loves watching him a safe spot inside the house.

¶Tyler had Jake make several maneuvers while wearing the goggles, teaching him how to scan the instruments and to rely on them for feedback as the maneuver was underway. It’s an odd feeling, I’m sure, and seems like it would be hard to get used to. Jake seemed pretty comfortable with it, though.

¶I finally went flying with Jake today. I’m not sure, really, why it took me so long and now I’m wishing I would have done it sooner. But, no matter. Today I flew with Jake for the first time.
¶Just flying in a small plane was, of course, an incredible experience. But, more so, seeing Jake pilot like a boss was nothing short of amazing. He was professional, practiced, and steady as she goes. And, to both of our surprise, his instructor Tyler had him put on the instrument goggles to start his instrument training. We flew for about an hour, and I think Jake was under the goggles for ~45 minutes of that.
¶Incredible experience, and now I can’t wait to do it again.

¶COVID protocol had us waiting in the car for the tech to bring Teddy out to us. We had to wait a bit while they brought a couple new patients in from the lot, but it was worth it to see his little face in the door as they walked him out. So great to see him again! Poor guy has been through a lot these last few days.

¶The pause is probably the right thing to do as it allows for the development of a monitoring and treatment protocol. But, the rate at which these clots occur is ridiculously low; lower, even, that some clotting related issues that occur with COVID itself (pulmonary embolism, etc.). Barring a sudden onslaught of these cases, which seems unlikely, I expect the JNJ vaccine will be back online in relatively short order.

¶Lucy and Teddy have developed a game that, for a cat dealing with a new puppy in the house, we thought was fairly cute. Lucy is still cautious of Teddy, but they’ve started “playing together” in a simple way–Lucy knocks something off the table, and Teddy picks it up and plays with it. Harmless fun, so we thought.
¶Sometime this afternoon, Lucy knocked a bottle of Advil off the island and Teddy started playing with it. I’m sure it felt like a toy, all rattly and everything. He proceeded to chew the bottle, getting the lid off and even tearing a hole in it at the bottom.
¶We don’t know how many pills were left in the bottle, but he got ahold of some of them. We found 17 on the floor, separate from the vomit. I think the bottle was near the end, so hopefully he didn’t get many.
¶But, even a small dose of ibuprofen can be toxic to dogs (they can’t clear it like we can). He vomited at least four times at home. We took him to the hospital, and they’re now keeping him under observation, which means giving him charcoal to absorb anything that’s left and pumping him full of fluids to protect the kidneys.
¶He’s got a rough 48 hours ahead of him, but I think he’ll be ok.

¶One of my tires has developed a slow leak over the last few months. It will hold a fill for a few weeks, but eventually starts losing pressure, slowly. I finally had a bit of time to take it in for a look today…on the jack she goes!

¶Renee and I went to Cleveland today for her annual follow-up appointment. Lunch afterwards has become a tradition, and Burntwood Tavern in Lyndhurst is our go-to.
¶We panicked a bit when it didn’t show up on the map right away but were eventually relieved to find the restaurant right where it’s been for at least the last four years.
¶When the waiter asked for my drink order, it occurred to me that we hadn’t been out to lunch in quite some time, global pandemic and all. “I’ll have an Arnold Palmer.” I haven’t said that in a long time!
¶Lunch was great, and it was wonderful to reconnect with our tradition.
