¶The pause is probably the right thing to do as it allows for the development of a monitoring and treatment protocol. But, the rate at which these clots occur is ridiculously low; lower, even, that some clotting related issues that occur with COVID itself (pulmonary embolism, etc.). Barring a sudden onslaught of these cases, which seems unlikely, I expect the JNJ vaccine will be back online in relatively short order.

¶Lucy and Teddy have developed a game that, for a cat dealing with a new puppy in the house, we thought was fairly cute. Lucy is still cautious of Teddy, but they’ve started “playing together” in a simple way–Lucy knocks something off the table, and Teddy picks it up and plays with it. Harmless fun, so we thought.
¶Sometime this afternoon, Lucy knocked a bottle of Advil off the island and Teddy started playing with it. I’m sure it felt like a toy, all rattly and everything. He proceeded to chew the bottle, getting the lid off and even tearing a hole in it at the bottom.
¶We don’t know how many pills were left in the bottle, but he got ahold of some of them. We found 17 on the floor, separate from the vomit. I think the bottle was near the end, so hopefully he didn’t get many.
¶But, even a small dose of ibuprofen can be toxic to dogs (they can’t clear it like we can). He vomited at least four times at home. We took him to the hospital, and they’re now keeping him under observation, which means giving him charcoal to absorb anything that’s left and pumping him full of fluids to protect the kidneys.
¶He’s got a rough 48 hours ahead of him, but I think he’ll be ok.

¶One of my tires has developed a slow leak over the last few months. It will hold a fill for a few weeks, but eventually starts losing pressure, slowly. I finally had a bit of time to take it in for a look today…on the jack she goes!

¶Renee and I went to Cleveland today for her annual follow-up appointment. Lunch afterwards has become a tradition, and Burntwood Tavern in Lyndhurst is our go-to.
¶We panicked a bit when it didn’t show up on the map right away but were eventually relieved to find the restaurant right where it’s been for at least the last four years.
¶When the waiter asked for my drink order, it occurred to me that we hadn’t been out to lunch in quite some time, global pandemic and all. “I’ll have an Arnold Palmer.” I haven’t said that in a long time!
¶Lunch was great, and it was wonderful to reconnect with our tradition.

¶We hadn’t really been to the beach during this trip—water was still too cold! We decided to dip our toes tonight though, thinking it wouldn’t be a complete trip without doing so.

¶I’m old enough to think about retirement, but young enough to not have any details on what it might actually look like. Seeing this guy on our morning walk is a little inspiring for me though. A good book and a seat by the beach. Add a view and I think I’d be quite content.

¶Our last morning on the beach was…perfect. The patio is one of my favorite spots in the world, and mornings, with Renee and a coffee, could not be better. This bit of audio captures the environment pretty well.

¶We can back to The Hangar restaurant at Albert Whitted airport for a second time. The plane watching and the food are always great, so Renee and I were happy to come again when Jake asked.
¶We watched several smaller planes take off, and this Pilatus PC-12, a single engine turboprop. Several helicopters made their way in and out, too.

¶And to prove that progress isn’t all bad, here’s another shot from our balcony looking over the preserve at Upham Beach. In the Aquatarium photo above, you can see the beach is only…a beach. At some point they established a preserve between the beach near the water and the street. Now it’s lush, green, and full of birds and other wildlife. It’s a beautiful and functional buffer.

¶The story of the Florida Aquatarium is short and sad, but I’m sure people all over the world have fond memories of that place. I’ve always viewed it as an “in between” attraction—bigger than a roadside attraction, but not quite the destination attraction that Disney ushered in.
¶I think my grandparents took me there once as a kid, likely after it had become Shark World based on the dates and my age at the time. Weirdly, my dominant memory is of the distinctive radial parking lot.
¶Renee has memories of walking along the sea wall you see in the picture posted above.
¶The Aquatarium is old school, beach town Florida, for sure. I miss the simplicity of it a bit, and I say that as I sit on our balcony in the air above that old parking lot in the photo above.
