We went to the Rays game this afternoon. Nearly missed it, thinking first pitch was at 7 PM. Nope–noon start today! The surprise early start was nice, though, giving the boys a reason to get moving relatively early in the day.

I always want this picture when we’re at Tropicana Field–the group selfie in the beautiful atrium of an otherwise less-than-beautiful (but I love it!) stadium. Phone cameras just can’t capture it well, though. I need my mirrorless Sony, a tripod, shutter release, and a graduated neutral density filter! Oh well, playing with the editing of the phone versions is fun, and reminds me that there’s no perfect way to develop or edit a photo. Have fun with it, and see what comes from it. I love the over exposed, super contrasty, grainy look here. And black and white can always help to recover things in a janky exposure.

We ate dinner at The Hangar at Albert Whitted tonight. One of our favorites, but the weather threatened rain all day, which made for a slow day at the airport. So, we didn’t see much activity as we ate. Bummer.

The ground crew did tug this Pilatus from a hangar across the way to a spot right in front of our car right before we left. Jake and I took a closer look through the fence.

The world held its collective breath today as Nancy Pelosi left Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It still wasn’t clear if she was going to make her planned stop in Taiwan as she entered the air, so people around the world turned to flight tracking apps like Flightradar24 to watch as SPAR19 headed around the South China Sea and eventually turned North, heading around the Philippines and right for Taiwan.

I use Flightradar24 all the time, but couldn’t get data to load this morning as so many people around the world watched our Speaker head East (and North) for democracy.

A few more clouds would have made for more interesting skies after the sun sank below the horizon, but this sunset was damn near perfect.

The fire and brimstone of southern Georgia never ceases to amaze me. This is representative of the billboards in the last 100 miles or so in Georgia.

It’s funny, actually. Every time we “run the gauntlet,” I feel assured in my belief that there is no god, because, if there were, he/she surely would have blown up the car with all the blasphemy and fist waving going on.

How does this happen? Blame for these “race to publish” errors seems to usually fall on the writer. Not here, though, where it seems Mr. Dow’s “management team” had the itchy finger.

CNN previously reported an obituary on Tony Dow, after receiving a statement from his management team confirming his death. That statement has since been rescinded and a family friend has confirmed to CNN that Dow is in hospice care.

Yes. Yes I am.

Getting my second COVID booster shot this morning. I’ve got the first appointment of the day, but I could have any time I wanted—every single time slot was available when I scheduled it online last night.

At 52, I’ve been eligible for my second booster for some time now. I waited, though, waiting for signs of another surge and hoping to maximize the window during which it gives me elevated antibody levels. A bit of a game, I know, but not entirely without merit. As an immunologist, I bank more on long term memory and the T-cell response, but feel I might as well try to leverage the “sugar high” of an antibody surge.

The pharmacist let me leave right after the shot; she made no mention of a waiting period. So, I’m now sitting in my car in the parking lot for a self-imposed fifteen minute watch period.

Denny had never seen the Blue Angels live before. I think he really enjoyed it, and I think Renee had a lot of fun seeing it with him.

I looked over at them right after I heard the announcer mention the Delta Breakout maneuver was coming next, and was lucky to catch them watching it together.

I love this photo.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as a true Delta Breakout–I think the full maneuver usually has the sixth plane coming straight through, directly at us in the photo. I think they only had five in this maneuver, which was no less impressive.

The setup for the Thunder Over Michigan show works really well. All parking is right in front of the main field and you stay at your car for the show. They space the cars to leave a sitting area for each family next to their own car. The view is great, but your car is always available to provide a higher vantage point!

I was a little mad at myself for not bringing my dSLR. I was rushed a bit and didn’t prepare as I should have, which forced me to shoot the entire show on my iPhone (12 Pro Max).

I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed, though. I know the limits of the phone when I shoot with it, but encountered a new one today–heat. The phone overheated a few times, dimming the display and making shooting all but impossible.

Live and learn. I’ll definitely be better prepared for next year’s show.

I’m still pretty happy with the results, though!
