¶We had perfect thunderstorm conditions tonight–one rolled over us, heading northwest out over the Gulf, right before sunset. It had quite a bit of lightning activity, too. I didn’t have time to setup my full frame camera, so I grabbed the iPhone 12 and attempted to catch lightning.
¶I shot for about twenty minutes, capturing about a hundred images, each right after I saw lightning. This was frustrating and fun at the same time–I kept probably seven. I’m posting two.
¶It gives you a real sense of the time it takes to process what you see and turn it into action. Frustrating to watch a lightning strike and then feel your finger hit the button a millisecond (or more) too late. Seven out of a hundred plus is decent, I think!

¶The cell phone lot at Tampa International is really well done, complete with a a drive-in theater style arrivals board, restrooms, and vending machines. EV chargers, too! Puts the lot at Detroit Metro to shame. Well done, TPA!

¶There’s a lot to criticize about Tropicana Field. It has some positives, though. Just look at this photo–The Trop clearly has the most interesting geometries in all of baseball! Besides the beautiful shapes that all baseball fields share, look at the rings of the catwalks, the radiant supports on the roof, and the way the left field foul pole just stabs through it all.
¶And a bonus for this game–our seats were ever-so-slightly out of plane with the third base foul line.

¶Having Harry with us provided an excuse to visit the Touch Tank at Tropicana Field. We haven’t visited that in several years, despite going to several games over those years. I think it’s clear from this photo who was most excited about it.
