¶We went to the zoo today…mostly to check out the baby polar bears, which were pretty cute.

¶We finished Succession on HBO (Max, sorry) tonight. The first three seasons of the show were some of the best tv I’ve ever watched, but this last season was…painful. We really forced ourselves to finish it (“we made it this far....”). The last half of the last episode was interesting, and did have me reevaluating my feelings for each of the characters. So I was invested and interested in it. The twist was a surprise, too, which helped. Over all, though, I have to say I was disappointed as it just feels like this season prevented the show from living up to its potential, a high bar set by the first three seasons, for sure.

¶Jake has his orientation at BGSU today, and I’m along for the ride. Looks like a great event, full of stuff for new students but also plenty of things planned for family. Should be a lot of fun.

¶Jake’s a tall guy…so I’m not sure a classic British car is a good physical fit for him. But, with top up, he claims he had plenty of leg and head room.

¶Back to the old routine for meals…and it makes me appreciate what we have here in town. Balance for dinner tonight, which is a local gem. Love everything about this place - the food, the vibe, the people. Balance is a long-standing client of ours, too — one of those clients that you just absolutely love working with.

¶What a great way to end a day — all four of us together, having s’mores over the fire in the backyard. We don’t get to do this very often these days with Jonathan off at school (and Jake heading out in the Fall), so I really appreciate moments like this lately. We talked and talked and talked, long after the first time Renee said “we should probably head in.”

¶Renee and I enjoyed a pretty casual morning in Cambridge, with breakfast at Tatte and a walk along the Charles River (complete with crew practice in the background!). Now we’re heading out to help Jonathan and Kassia with what should be the end of the move from apartment A to apartment B.

¶I’ve been waiting for these stairs my entire life. These numbered stairs lead to the second floor of Tatte in Cambridge, a favorite breakfast spot for Renee and me. I’ve never noticed the numbers on the stairs before, but we’ve also never eaten upstairs before today.
¶Anyways, on the numbering. I’m not sure when it started, or why it never stopped, but I usually count stairs in my head when going up or down a flight. It’s automatic. I don’t think I do it every time, but it’s frequent enough that I’m fully aware of it.
¶After taking these up and down, though, I have to say I preferred unnumbered stairs. Seeing the numbers seemed to jumble up the counting in my head, which was unexpected.

¶There’s probably ten tables with chess boards in this sidewalk seating area in Harvard Square. All were being used tonight, which is typical. Only this one had spectators.

¶Time to open the pool! I was pleasantly surprised to find relatively clear water when I peeled back the pool cover today. Looks like we’re in relatively decent shape. A few gallons of shock, a few bags of salt, and a decent sweeping should have the water ready for swimming.

¶The four of us went to dinner at Inside the Five in Perrysburg tonight, after Jake’s shift there. It’s rare we get to eat out together like that, so it was really nice to just sit around the table and talk. I had a Tijuana Bagpipes, which Inside describes as a “Cinnamon and Coffee Scottish Ale.” I had no trouble putting it down, but probably won’t order it again.
