¶I added the camera to the Raspberry Pi today and got the script to the point where it’s adding commands for snapping the sunset pic and pics for six deviation times (-30 minutes, -10, -5, +5, +10, and +30) to the crontab. I actually finished it right before the -30 time for tonight’s sunset, so I hastily strapped the camera to the outside of the Pi with a rubber band, put it on a little tripod, and pointed it out the window. An hour later, I logged in and was pleased to see seven jpg files right where I expected them.
¶My aim wasn’t bad, but the camera clearly focused on the screen in the window. I’ll work on that.
¶Here’s the -30 pic for tonight, taken at 8:42, 30 minutes before the sunset time of 9:12. You can see the sun as a pinpoint of orange light through the trees in the bottom left.

¶Fireworks today, which means turning the pool heater on first thing in the morning. Water temp was 76 before I fired it up at about 7AM. We’ll see how high it gets by dinner time when Jake and his friends will want to swim.

¶One of Jake’s instructors gave him some tail wheel training time for graduation. Jake figured they’d use the tail wheel trainer they have at the airport.
¶Nope.
¶He wanted to take Jake up in his open cockpit biplane.
¶Red Baron style.
¶Open air, front and back single seats. Jake said it was a blast. He let Jake takeoff, but not land. And Jake had to be the eyes—the back drops, so the pilot can’t see everything. So…”watch for trees, power lines, animals....”
¶Jake said it was some of the most fun he’s ever had flying.

¶What the hell happened it Russia over yesterday and today? I think the Prigozhin and his Wagner group wanted out of the war in Ukraine, but they couldn’t retreat or surrender…so they pointed the finger at Putin (which Wagner Prigozhin has been doing for months now, maybe as foundation for this) and threatened a coup. His March to Moscow ended as quickly as it began, and really ended up as nothing more than taking the scenic drive from southeastern Ukraine to Belarus. But, in the end, Wagner retreated from Ukraine…but didn’t surrender.

¶We finished Succession on HBO (Max, sorry) tonight. The first three seasons of the show were some of the best tv I’ve ever watched, but this last season was…painful. We really forced ourselves to finish it (“we made it this far....”). The last half of the last episode was interesting, and did have me reevaluating my feelings for each of the characters. So I was invested and interested in it. The twist was a surprise, too, which helped. Over all, though, I have to say I was disappointed as it just feels like this season prevented the show from living up to its potential, a high bar set by the first three seasons, for sure.

¶Back to the old routine for meals…and it makes me appreciate what we have here in town. Balance for dinner tonight, which is a local gem. Love everything about this place - the food, the vibe, the people. Balance is a long-standing client of ours, too — one of those clients that you just absolutely love working with.
