Running from the sunrise and chasing the sunset

In today's journal

Jonathan and I drove home, from Cambridge to Perrysburg, while Renee and Jake flew from Boston to Detroit.

Ah yes, the familiar pattern of a drive home from Boston — running from the sunrise in the morning and chasing the sunset at night. Always a good day.

Left early this morning to drive home. It’s a lot lighter at 5:00 AM in Boston than it is at home. I could probably be an early riser here.

I loved seeing this view of the moon as I pulled away from the hotel.

So long, Cambridge. See you in the Fall.

As a bonus, I got this great sunrise view over The Zakim bridge as I turned West to head out of town.

This discovery, published in the journal Nature, could provoke “an absolutely massive change” by providing low-cost and low-emission cement at scale, said Julian Allwood, who co-authored the research.

I didn’t appreciate the distinction between cement and concrete…or the environmental impact — “nearly eight percent of human-caused CO2 emissions” — of the soaring demand for concrete, which is “already the most widely used construction material on Earth.” Sounds like this could be a huge development.

Here’s the original Nature paper for the cement recycling link above. I hate it when articles don’t link to the original research.
