¶Statistically speaking, bioluminescence first appeared on earth at least as early as 540 million years ago. That’s incredible, though there’s something in this article that I find even more remarkable - “Bioluminescence…has independently evolved at least 94 times in nature.” Talk about a winning strategy.

¶After reading that article on bioluminescence, I figured I had to have some photos of the boys with lightning bugs (fireflies?). So, I searched the photos app on my phone for “lightning bugs” and it dutifully returned a series of five photos from over a decade ago. Pretty amazing.
¶This one shows Jake with fascinated by a ligtning bug resting on his hand (hard to see as it’s not illuminated).
