We woke up this morning to an unexpected port call. At first I thought we were just slowly traversing the Turks Island Passage, cutting southward through the islands. I then realized we were sitting still, and then realized we’re were docked. The concierge told us there was a medical emergency on board, and the captain later made an announcement that a crew member needed “additional medical attention that can only be received at a hospital.” I watched as an ambulance slowly made its way to the dock and presumably carried the crew member away. I sure hope they’re ok.

I also watched a Learjet land at Grand Turk International airport, which was cool. Flew in from Tampa, making slightly better time than us. ;-)

Maybe 20-30 minutes later we were underway again. I guess now Renee and I can officially say we’ve been to Turks and Caicos.

Renee and I had a bourbon tasting tonight. We (mostly) enjoyed a great selection of bourbons, including one that is, to date, a favorite of both of ours — Blanton’s. I didn’t care for the Wild Turkey Rare Breed, but I pretty much loved everything else. Town Branch was a standout.

We’re quickly getting comfortable with the Concierge Lounge! No lines, great selection, and wonderful people. We enjoyed a nice breakfast before heading to the spa for a couples massage.

We ended up having three dessert courses because of the anniversary cake. This course included another cake (presented in the smaller egg pictured here), some chocolates, and apricot rolls. They surprised me a bit, and I think I liked them the best.

We couldn’t finish this round. So much food!

The maǐtre ď brought Renee a rose (fibbing a bit, saying it was from me), and we left after enjoying one of the best meals we’ve ever had.

Our waiter knew we were celebrating our anniversary, and asked if we wanted to celebrate in the restaurant (assuring us it would not involve a group of waiters clapping and singing at our table!). At the end of our meal, he brought our “surprise” - a celebration cake in a mirrored egg. The presentation was a bit odd when compared to the amazing presentation of everything else, but the cake was fantastic. We enjoyed it a bit later, as our second dessert.

Renee and I enjoyed a wonderful, multi-course dinner at Remy onboard the Disney Fantasy tonight. Our waiter suggested that Renee order the French tasting and that I order the American, and that we then share each course. He essentially gave us permission to do what we were wondering but might have been afraid to ask, which was a really welcoming way to start the meal.

Turns out, pretty much everything from both menus was fantastic. I think we both like the toothfish the best, followed by the Wagyu beef and then, for me, the beet dish. Truly an incredible meal and amazing service.

I absolutely love waking up to sunshine spreading across the open water. What a beautiful sight and a wonderful feeling - nature, expanse, warmth. I love everything this sight brings me.

Little touches of that Disney magic are everywhere! Ha!

Our room at the DVC resort at Grand Floridian is really nice, but the message on the tv when we first arrived made me laugh. Not sure how they got it wrong. I guess the real Magic is I know if I said something, they would try to fix it.

I won’t say this happens regularly, but it certainly has happened to me several times over nearly five years of Tesla ownership. You always have to be ready to take over control of the car in FSD in an instant. It is nowhere near being a license to ignore the road, traffic, and surroundings. I hope to see that someday, but we’re not there just yet.

The Midwest has ready access to a lot of fresh water, and tech is coming for it. Intel is building a giant fab facility near Columbus and, apparently, OpenAI developed ChatGPT in Iowa.

Cities like Toledo, Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago should really benefit from tech’s growing thirst for water. I hope Ohio and the other Great Lakes states are ready and prepared to protect our resources. I’m all for progress, and the Midwest should leverage the need for water to gain economically from this, but ensuring sustainability of our natural resources should be the first priority.

My Model 3 has been neglected a bit since we got Renee’s Model Y. It’s no longer the cool car in the family. And it’s no longer the car she and I take on routine errands. It has quickly become the car I use for commuting to the office and back.

And that’s ok. I love her Model Y.

I felt the 3 needed some attention, though, so I washed it yesterday and cleaned the inside today. That should feel nice on the way into work tomorrow morning.

Jake flew from BG to Akron today, which is a couple hours of flying in a Piper! I tracked him most of the way, and even pulled up the Live ATC feed from Akron-Canton Airport when he was in the area. I think I managed to catch his calls, but it was hard to tell (there was a bit of an echo on the line).

Aviation tracking is really quite incredible these days. The amount of information available – real time information – is nothing short of incredible.

How’s our new empty-nester lifestyle? Well, Renee and I happily stayed up late tonight to track Jake’s second flight to Akron for the day. I put my iPad on the nightstand and split the screen with a flight tracker and the live ATC feed for Akron-Canton airport. Renee heard Jake make radio calls for the first time, which was pretty cool.

And we watched the Lions beat the Chiefs, too, which was fantastic!

We’re eating in a Panera in Cheektowaga, New York as the Tesla charges out back. I guess the charging time is the downside of traveling with the Tesla, but it’s also kind of nice. Breaks things up a bit, and changes what we eat on the road, mostly for the better.

There was only one open spot when we pulled in, so we almost had to wait for a charger.

An additional 20 bucks a night got us this balcony with a view at the hotel. It’s maybe 8’x8’. And totally worth it.
