¶It sounds like Jonathan lost his tassel. We’ll see…commencement isn’t until Thursday, so he’s got a couple days to find it. I noticed this one as I wandered Harvard Yard before the ceremony this morning. Apparently his is not the only tassel that’s been misplaced.

¶The walkway was tight, but we managed to get some nice shots of Jonathan as he walked by. It was a little easier when the grads were leaving after the ceremony, heading to the steps of Widener Library for the class pic, which is when I caught this one of Jonathan.

¶We’re back in the hotel room and I’m editing pics on the new iPad Pro, which is working pretty well. I’ll write about the details of the new setup soon, but in the meantime, suffice it to say that I’m going direct from camera to the new iPad inside Lightroom and it’s quite nice.

¶Prior to Johannson’s statement, Open AI made this claim in a post Sunday: “We believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity’s distinctive voice—Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice.”
¶They left out the part where they intentionally selected the actress who had a voice that sounds just like Johannson’s.

¶I did have one slowdown along the way, about an hour outside of Boston. It’s always interesting, and a little disturbing, to get a closer look at things on the shoulder of the expressway. Things you typically never notice (or can’t notice) when zooming by at seventy miles an hour. I noticed several things during my 20-30 minute delay — tires, bottles, random metal car parts, shoes (seriously), and vape cartridges, to list a few.
¶I took this picture mainly because I couldn’t confirm the identity of this coily thing without the aid of pinching to zoom on my phone.
¶Yep - it’s a dead snake.

¶After driving for about 14 hours, I arrived at the cell phone lot at Logan International about seven minutes before Renee and Jake landed. We couldn’t have timed that better if we tried!

¶I’m not a Pacers fan, but my midwestern roots require that I love the team’s historic Game 7 win over the Knicks today, in MSG.
¶The Cavs exited the playoffs after an admirable run at Boston, so I’m happy to turn my fandom to the Pacers for the rest of this season’s playoffs. I’m pulling for the Timberwolves in their Game 7 tonight, too.

¶He also noted that a ChatGPT-like chatbot will be noticeably absent from Apple’s upcoming AI features. Apple executives are said to have admitted that they’re “playing catch-up” internally.
¶Sounds like we’ll get some baby steps with AI in iOS 18. I look to see Apple turn its slower pace on AI into a positive at the upcoming WWDC, touting guardrails and privacy. I think that’s a winning strategy, btw. Non-techie, “regular people” are intrigued by chatGPT right now, but they’re also concerned and a little afraid. I think a turtle that provides comfort and allays fears wins this race, and I think that’s exactly what Apple intends to do.

¶Which — as Khan says — is sure to bring in guests from all over the globe. “From like, literally, all over the world,” said Khan. “That’s probably the coolest thing to me. Just all of those different cultures mixed in together.” More attractions are on the way to the area, and coming this summer will be a direct flight from Mexico City. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will also be adding a non-stop flight to Amsterdam this fall.
¶The secret’s out - St. Pete is truly a wonderful place to visit and live. More people (and traffic!) are on the way, but I’m ok with that if it adds to the vibrancy and diversity of the area. I’m sure we’ll hear plenty of complaints at the pool next time we’re down there, though. Boomers gonna boomer.

¶We bought tickets at the last minute, so we didn’t have great seats. We were stuck in the end section, which sort of reminded me of Block-O seats at Ohio Stadium, which I hated. Forget the audience participation, I just want to watch the game! These actually weren’t that bad compared to Block-O…this banner was really the only thing the fans had to do, and they rolled that out during a time out. Nothing like the constant up and down and shuffling of placards that comes with a seat in Block-O at Ohio Stadium.

¶We haven’t made it to many Walleye games this year, which is too bad because they’ve had another great season. They’re in the conference finals now, but might be outmatched. We went to game two tonight, and they just didn’t have it. They’re down in the series 0-2. Hard to see them coming back from this with only one more game in Toledo and the rest of the series in Kansas City.

¶“To me, email is probably the worst because it’s become a symbol of work,” she said, adding that her research has found a direct correlation between email and more stress. “We cut off email for some workers in an organization for one workweek,” she said. “Using heart rate monitors, we found that they became significantly less stressed and were able to focus significantly longer.”
¶I remind myself daily that email is an application that can be closed. I don’t have any personal data, but I can feel the drop in stress and increase in focus mentioned in that quote when my email app is closed. It’s hard, but I’m trying to get to a point where I only check it three to four times a day.
